I make a low, rumbly sound in agreement.

If it will help get David back with his family, I think, then I really want to try!

I guess Susan can read me pretty well. She looks at me and takes a deep breath. “Okay then,” she says to Ranger Griffin. “We’ll do it.”

Before we leave the command center, though, there’s something Susan has to take care of first. Together, we go back to David’s family.

“I can tell that Skye liked meeting you, Penny,” Susan says. “You spoke to her so kindly. But right now, we have to leave for a bit.”

“Oh. Okay,” says Penny. She doesn’t look happy.

“Before we go, Skye and I want you to have something,” Susan says. “It’s our way of saying thank you for the nice visit today.”

I see Susan pull something from her backpack. She hands one of my trading cards to Penny. “This card tells all about Skye, and it has her picture too,” Susan says. “It’s specially made for new friends she really likes, like you.”

When Penny looks down at the card, I catch sight of a change on her face.

For the first time since I’ve met her, the little girl smiles.
